2020 GRAND MARSHAL

Michael Quinlan

Michael Quinlan is truly humbled, honored and proud to be selected as the Grand Marshal of the Hampton Bays Hibernians 16th annual parade this year. Born in Flatbush Brooklyn in 1966 to parents Mike & Eileen, Michael lived in Rome, NY before moving to and settling down in Hampton Bays for good in 1969. Not long after his sisters Kerry, Tara and Megan arrived. He attended Hampton Bays Elementary school until 3rd grade and then went to Sacred Hearts of Jesus & Mary Elementary/Middle School in Southampton. Michael graduated from Mercy High School in Riverhead. After graduating he went to Suffolk Community College and then transferred to Plattsburgh State University College to finish his education.

Michael’s great grandparents came through Ellis Island from County Mayo & Sligo, Ireland and settled in Manhattan & Greenpoint Brooklyn. Michael grew up influenced by his strong Irish Catholic heritage. Yearly family trips to the NYC St. Patrick’s Day parade were celebrated with extended family and friends. The date March 17th also marked the birthday of his late father Mike and his uncle Pat, Mikes twin brother. Michael has visited Ireland several times with family and friends. He once had the amazing opportunity of staying at the Tulira Castle in Galway with his family. Family reunions are held yearly in East Durham, NY, timed to coincide with the yearly Irish festivals.

Michael is active in the Hampton Bays Hibernians and the Ancient Order of Hibernians where he was “Man of the Year” in 2015. He is also a member of the Knights of Columbus 7023 and Southampton Elks Lodge 1574. Michael who usually goes by “Mike” resides in East Quogue with his wife Rene’, a Hampton Bays native, and four children Finn, Nolan, Aidan & Ryan. He is the owner of a family business Quinlan Electric in Hampton Bays which was started by his father T. Michael Quinlan, former organizer & 2006 grand marshal.
